Storage Guidelines:

Use this as a quick reference for how long common foods keep in the refrigerator vs. freezer
(quality is best when stored promptly).

Freezing:

1. Freeze meals as soon as possible if they won’t be eaten within the recommended refrigeration time.
2. Store meals in airtight, freezer-safe containers to prevent freezer burn and off-flavors.
3. Ensure the container is freezer-safe and oven-safe before reheating from frozen (if applicable).

Note — Check labels: all freezer-friendly meals are labelled as such. Not all meals will hold quality when frozen.

Thawing:

1. Thaw meals overnight in the refrigerator whenever possible.
2. If you need to thaw quickly, use the microwave’s Defrost setting and cook/reheat immediately after thawing.
3. Never thaw food at room temperature.

Reheating:

Reheat food until it is hot throughout. Stir foods like soups, stews, and casseroles during reheating to ensure even heat.

Casseroles

  • Reheat covered in the oven at 350°F for 30-35 minutes, or until hot throughout.

  • Individual portions can be microwaved in 1-minute intervals.

  • Remove the cover for the last few minutes and raise the oven temp to 400°F if you’d like a crisp, golden top.

Pasta Bakes

  • Cover and reheat in the oven at 350°F until heated through.

  • For microwave reheating, add a tablespoon of water before heating to help prevent the pasta from drying out.

  • Optionally broil in the oven for a crispier top.

Soups & Stews

  • Reheat on the stovetop over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until gently simmering.

  • Alternatively, microwave in 1-minute intervals, stirring between each interval.

  • If the soup has thickened during storage, add a splash of water or broth to reach your desire consistency.
